Chester Chicken - Free Block Pattern (3 Sizes)

Eggs and chicks symbolize new life at Easter. Sew your own cute and cheeky Chester Chicken block using my free foundation paper pieced pattern.

For Easter last year I gave you the sweet and stunning Bonita Bunny block pattern, and this year I have another one for you - please say hello to the charming and cheeky Chester Chicken!

Now isn't he the cutest? I found this block in the EQ8 library and knew straight away that you would fall in love with him too. I did do a few modifications to the original block pattern - I added more shape to his head and shoulders, and I thought he needed a bow tie, just because! 

How can you resist that cheeky little face? He's adorable!

He's such a fun little block pattern and perfect for any of your Easter projects. Add Chester Chicken to your Easter quilts, or use him as a cushion front or mini quilt - my quilt is now hanging in our grandson's nursery!

I drafted Bonita Bunny in three sizes (6", 8" and 10"), so it was only fair I draft Chester Chicken in the same sizes so you have a set. You can hang the two mini's side by side or use both blocks together in projects. 

Chester Chicken is a foundation paper pieced block pattern and there's nothing particularly tricky or hard about this one. There are separate sections to join, and I've included my tips to help you put it together quickly and easily.

I used fabrics from my stash, and I haven't included quantities or requirements because you only need small amounts of each colour, and it varies between the block sizes. As a reference, I sewed the 8" block and I used fat eighths.

I've also included a colouring sheet so you can plan your block prior to committing to sew. The kids will love these as well - print up a bunch and let them colour in while you sew without disruption :)

I've also included instructions for making your block into a mini quilt, including optional instructions for adding a hanging sleeve or corner hangers to display your quilt this Easter.

You will need a few buttons for the eyes and the centre of the bow, but if you're worried about a choking hazard then embroider your own details or applique some eyes instead. 

I think Chester is a charming little chick and I hope you enjoy sewing him in any of the three sizes. The kids are going to love him, and he's a cute symbol of new life for this year's Easter celebrations.
