Week Ending (July 29)

Happy Sunday lovelies! Wow has July gone by fast or what? They say that time goes slower if we try new things so hopefully this weeks list offers new techniques and ideas to enhance (and savour) your creative journey.

  • First up, chain piecing saves us time but Suzy from Suzy Quilts has a great video tutorial on Chain Piecing Rows into a quilt top. Not only does this save you time but it also keeps all your units/pieces organised as you sew. Game changer!
  • How about this Hummingbird Slice? This classic recipe is usually served as a two layer cake but it looks just as delicious as a slice. Whats not to love; bananas, pineapple, nuts and coconut....yum!
  • Have you ever tried Tunisian Crochet? The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Tunisian Crochet from Red Heart is packed with tips, tricks and a video to help you out. Its a little bit like knitting with a crochet hook and looks like a fun technique to try.
  • In our fast paced world, doing things quickly is the norm but the gentle art of hand quilting is therapeutic and soothing to the soul. I love this Learn How To Hand Quilt tutorial from Sarah at Hip To Piece Squares. Just looking at her gorgeous handiwork makes me want to go back to hand quilting all of my projects :)
  • I'm loving the soft neutral palette of these Honey Maple fabrics from Whistler Studios coming to stores in October. They would make a gorgeous quilt and so different to the fabrics I usually choose. I'm looking forward to working with this lovely combination.
  • I love yarn almost as much as I love fabric but did you know that its not the only medium you can crochet with? This Star Stitch Tote is crocheted using jute (or string). How cool is that? A trip to the hardware shop with hubby just got a whole lot more interesting ;)
  • And last but not least, do you follow Lori from the Inbox Jaunt. In my opinion, Lori is the FMQ queen and I use her site a lot for inspiration, step by steps etc.. If you want to learn some new techniques then visit her Doodle Tutorials and prepare to be inspired. She also has a beautiful book which you can purchase HERE which is a must have for any quilter.
And that's it for another week. I hope you're enjoying your weekend. My men are busy today with father/son time so my plan is Netflix, crochet, coffee and chocolate. Perfect Sunday combo! And stay tuned because I've got a new mini quilt pattern coming out on Tuesday; she's a pretty one ♥
Happy Week Ending :)
