Classic Quilt Blocks have been sewn for centuries, are easy to recognise and are every quilters favorite. Let's celebrate these gorgeous blocks and add them to our quilting projects!
Welcome to the final week of my Basket Classic Quilt Blocks series. I'm a little sad, I've really enjoyed this month's block and it's been fun finding ways to share it with you!
Have you enjoyed this month's series? Has it inspired you to make your own basket quilt?
To end the series, I like to do something fun, so this week I have a sweet little mini quilt pattern for you. This basket is different to the ones we've looked at this month, and it's my take on a medallion quilt block centre.
This is my Flower Basket Mini Quilt and isn't she pretty? She's got that timeless antique feel, don't you think? And how stunning would this look as a tile design?
The basket is set on point or upright, to display a pretty spray of red blooms, and I've surrounded the block with simple squares and triangles to create a frame. The pink triangles act as a border and it's quite effective in this little sized quilt.
The Flower Basket Mini Quilt is completely paper pieced, and it finishes at around 10" square. In true medallion style you could add a few more borders to make it larger or use it as the focal block on your next big project.
I used a mix of Bonnie and Camille fabrics for my mini quilt, and the PDF pattern includes a colouring sheet so you can plan your fabrics/colours prior to committing to sew.
It's a quick mini pattern to sew and you can have it finished in a few hours, so make a few and give them as gifts for Easter or on special occasions instead of flowers.
The PDF pattern comes complete with full sized FPP templates and step by step instructions to make constructing your mini quilt quick and easy. There's also optional instructions for adding a hanging sleeve or corner hangers so you can display your quilt on your mini wall.
I really enjoyed working on this Flower Basket Mini Quilt and I hope you love it as well. If you would like to make your own version, then PDF patterns are now available in my Etsy shop for the small price of $2.99 (AU) + taxes where applicable.

And that's it for this month's Basket Classic Quilt Blocks series. I hope you've enjoyed learning more about this block, sewed a few in my step by step tutorial and been inspired by the blocks and quilts I shared.
I've had a blast and can't wait to do it all over again next month with a new block. The next Classic Quilt Block has a lot of history, is versatile in modern day quilts and is very easy to sew. I'm eager to share this block with you and the first post goes live on Friday April 9, 2021 - I hope you join me again for this block!
Happy quilting :)
Hello Rose. Your Classic Basket Block is beautiful! The fabric selections you chose were marvelous and added such touches to the block. I especially was enchanted with the bow that you added. It made such a marvelous addition to the block and the whole classic contribution. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and thoughts with us! Have a fantastic day!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you Brenda! It was such a fun block to put together and I was thrilled with how it turned out. The little bow is my favorite too - so feminine and pretty! Take care!
