7 Cosy and Modern Blanket Patterns

Cosy blankets make any home inviting and warm. Add some luxury to your home with one of these crochet or knitted blanket patterns.

It's the middle of summer, but I'm looking for a blanket pattern to work on before autumn arrives. Last year I knitted the gorgeous Harvest Throw from Two of Wands and it's my favorite blanket ever. From March till September, we loved on and lived under this blanket, and it added a cosy and inviting feel to our home.

My first instinct was to knit a second one in a different colour, but I love to challenge myself with different patterns, new techniques and working with a diverse range of yarns.

It's going to take a very special blanket to beat the Harvest Throw but luckily Pinterest is full of so many wonderful possibilities. Today I'm sharing seven patterns I'm considering and maybe they'll inspire you to grab some yarn and make a cosy blanket for yourself.

Let's go:

My absolute favorite is the MODular Knit Quilt pattern from Two of Wands. I saw this on Instagram and instantly fell in love. It's a knitted quilt basically and it's modern and fun.

Alexi's Hue and Me Yarn is delightful to work with and makes such a soft and warm blanket. I can't stop thinking about this pattern and it would help to cull my stash! Since I've enjoyed knitting again, this one is a strong contender and it's a free pattern on her blog.

What do you think? There is a crocheted version available as well, so I'm torn! Decisions!

Alexi also has the gorgeous Moonstone Plaid Blanket and how cosy and inviting does this look?

This is another knitted blanket, and the plaid detail is woven in after the blanket base is finished. This one could compliment my Harvest Throw in the lounge or add a modern touch to our bedroom during the cooler months.

Imagine wrapping yourself up in this blanket and reading on a lazy Sunday - I could think of nothing better to be honest!

This pattern is also free on Alexi's website.

I love the simplicity of the Crochet Herringbone Mixed Stripes Throw from Daisy Farm Crafts.

This blanket pattern is great for beginners, and half the fun would be choosing yarn colours to suit your home. Adapting the size for a more generous blanket would be easy, and the whole blanket is worked using a herringbone half double crochet stitch.

This is a free crochet pattern and super easy!

Yarnspirations has the Bernat Mosaic Stripe and Chevron Knitted Blanket available free on their website and this blanket is gorgeous!

It has a sophisticated look and a modern feel, and it will definitely make a statement in the home.

This is mosaic knitting and it will create a snuggly warm blanket.

The Cora Blanket from I Can Crochet That is chunky, textured and very inviting.

This free pattern will work up very quickly and its beginner friendly with a video tutorial for those who prefer visual learning.

The waffle like texture adds a modern feel and you'll achieve a lovely drape if you use the suggested Hue and Me Yarn (I can't recommend this yarn enough!)

This one is another top contender for me - I'm a sucker for lots of snuggly texture!

The Desert Dunes Mosaic Blanket from MJ's Off the Hook Designs is another free pattern and a strong contender for my next project.

This blanket has alternate sections of the mosaic crochet, and it will add a modern and fresh feel to any room. The tassels do it for me! I love the chunkiness they add to the blanket - it makes it look elegant and professional.

I do love this one! What do you think?

The last one is the Celestial Poms Throw pattern from Alexi of Two of Wands - can you tell I'm obsessed with her patterns? ;)

This is a free crochet pattern, and the combination of mesh blanket and pom poms is hard to resist. This would be more of a breathable lightweight blanket, but it would cosy up any space in your home - especially during Autumn.

I do love this one!

So, I have a decision to make but I'm strongly leaning towards the MODular Knit Quilt. I love the concept and the design, and I think it will be fun to knit up!

Which blanket is your next project?

Enjoy!
