Mini quilts may be small in size but they're super fun to sew! They're a fast finish with less commitment and every month I add a new design to my pattern family to tempt you!
It's the time of year when new romances blossom and the air is sweet with love and kindness, so let's wrap up our tender hearts in a big red bow and sew my new mini quilt design Aimee.
Aimee is the sweetest mini quilt and a wonderful way to celebrate this season of love. I'm a romantic and February is my favorite month ever - there's so much to celebrate!
I knew I wanted to design a new heart quilt to welcome the season and I had so much fun drafting and producing this mini quilt pattern.
Aimee is a feminine name of Old French and Latin origin meaning beloved and it comes from the French word aimer which means to love.
This name has many variations in spelling - Amy, Ami, Aime etc. - but I love this spelling, Aimee. It looks aesthetically pretty and it's a sweet French version of the English Amy.
Girls with the name Aimee are said to be kindhearted and possess natural beauty and grace.
For my Aimee Mini Quilt, I wanted a scrappy pink heart, and I rummaged through my Bonnie and Camille scraps to find fabrics that not only complimented each other but gave enough contrast to highlight the individual sections.
I wanted the red bow to be the main focus and pop off the quilt, and I love how dramatic and luxurious it looks - it looks like a big box of expensive chocolates!
When choosing your own fabrics, be as scrappy as you like. Aimee would look stunning in any fabric combination and half the fun is choosing which fabrics bring you the most joy!
Aimee is a stunning mini quilt finishing at a petite 12" square. She is constructed using the foundation paper piecing method and she's what I would call a skill builder!
Knowledge of foundation paper piecing is essential and if you need a little help, you can follow any of my tutorials here:
I'm only an email away if you need some extra help with foundation paper piecing, so contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
The foundation templates for Aimee are large and quick to paper piece, but there are a lot of templates to join together due to the angles of the design.
Take your time, pay close attention to the notches on the templates - even if they seem small and insignificant, cut them - and read my Paper Piecing Tips and Tricks blogpost to help you join the sections together accurately and easily.
Otherwise, there's nothing particularly tricky about the Aimee Mini Quilt. It goes together in sections, and I've included lots of diagrams to clearly illustrate how the paper pieced sections go together to make it easy for you.
The Aimee Mini Quilt PDF Pattern includes step by step assembly instructions and full-sized templates so you can print and sew without any fuss.
There's also a colouring sheet to help you plan your fabrics/colours prior to piecing your mini quilt, and optional instructions for adding a hanging sleeve or corner hangers to display your quilt on your mini wall.
I've also included any tips I feel are useful for constructing this mini, and I've been generous when calculating fabric requirements so you can sew with peace of mind.
Aimee was an absolute delight to produce, and I think lovers and romantics will absolutely adore this quilt.
