Week Ending - May 18

Seven inspiring projects, seven talented makers! Quilting, crochet and baking links to inspire you to create every day of the week!

Happy Sunday lovely! I hope you've had a creative week!

We're in the final stretch of autumn and I'm so ready to hibernate and embrace the cold months of winter. My winter bucket list is ready, I've purchased a set of historical fiction books (The Six Tudor Queens by Alison Weir), new yarn has arrived and a beautiful water colour journal ready for me to fill, and I have returned to my Scrappy Postage Stamp Quilt after a long absence.

This long-term project doesn't receive as much attention as I'd like but like a faithful friend, she is ready when I find a few minutes or a slow afternoon. I feel calm and grounded as I sew the squares together and it's familiar and peaceful to work on.

Do you have a project that instantly relaxes you?

I found some wonderful projects for you this week, so let's go:

  • Tonight's dinner looks like the ultimate comfort food. The Bacon Mushroom Swiss Meatloaf recipe from Cheff Recipes is a delicious twist on a family favorite with the addition of mushrooms, bacon and Swiss cheese. The photos alone will have you drooling and it's easy to customise to your tastes. We're adventuring today, and this will be a perfect way to end to a wonderful autumn Sunday.
  • Abby Maed has a detailed tutorial for a Quilted Tote Bag I'm sure you'll love. You do require a 20" (finished) block already sewn and the fun part will be searching for free block patterns on Pinterest. The bag is lined, and the handles are cotton webbing, making them sturdy and durable. A fun project that's practical and stylish.

  • How sweet is the Crochet Hot Water Cover Pattern from Top Knotch Crochet? Yarn covers remind me of my childhood and the care mum would take to pretty up a simple item in our home. It was comforting, kept the hot water bottle warm for longer and our skin safe from burns. This is a free pattern with a link to a tutorial to help you keep those edges straight and even.
  • One of my craft girls emailed this recipe link to me after she baked and fell in love. This Lemon Drizzle Layer Cake recipe from Delicious Australia is the perfect combination of sweet and sour and the cake is light and fluffy with a sugar-coated crust. I'm eager to bake this one!

  • Nine patch blocks are one of the first quilt blocks you learn to sew, and their versatility and simplicity is endearing - I love a sweet nine patch block. Repro Quilt Lover has a post called Master the Art of Making Tiny Nine Patch Quilt Block with so many wonderful tips and a pattern including three sizes for you to peruse. It might inspire you to create a quilt such as the one in the photo above.
  • I fell in love with the Crochet Book Sleeve Pattern from Thread Whimsy Designs. It's simple and clean but the pocket sold me as I like to annotate the books I read, and this will house my highlighter and sticky tabs. This pattern is available for purchase in their Etsy shop.
  • While the garden is resting during these colder months, I love nothing more than pottering in my glasshouse, especially when the rain is pattering on the roof - it's the perfect white noise. To add some extra personality to this sacred place, I am making some Mosiac Butterflies using the tutorial from Home Talk which has lots of tips. I cut my butterfly bases on my Cricut and I'm using mosaic gems and tiles I purchased from Bunnings. It's a fun way to add some homemade creativity to the glasshouse and a great rainy day project.

And that's it for another week. I hope you found something new to create.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday lovely! Stay safe and well :)

Happy Week Ending :)
