Week Ending - May 31

Seven inspiring projects, seven talented makers! Quilting, crochet and baking links to inspire you to create every day of the week.

Happy Sunday lovely! I hope this week has been creative.

May 20th was International Bee Day and to help our grandchildren understand how important bees are to our ecosystem and survival, we had a theme day. We crafted bee water stations from air dry clay, baked with locally produced honey and drew and coloured our own bee's and beehives.

This week's Week Ending post celebrates these hard-working pollinators and I hope you feel inspired:

  • See Chels has a gorgeous Daisy and Bumblebee Quilt Block Pattern in her Etsy shop. The PDF pattern includes both FPP designs that finish at 5" and bonus mini quilt instructions. Both blocks are lovely and such versatile patterns to have in your files.
  • We made the Honey Waffles from Recipes From A Pantry and these were delicious. They were easy to make, and we topped them with fresh fruit, an extra drizzle of honey and a dollop of whipped cream.

  • The Crochet Honey Bee Blanket from Briana K Designs is a stunning free pattern that incorporates crochet and cross stitch - there are instructions for crochet tapestry as well if you prefer. The crocheted hexagons create the honeycomb, and the stitched bees complete the look. Perfection!
  • We also baked the Honey Cake from Recipes by Sophie. This was divine. It was perfectly spiced, moist and the honey gave it a sweet floral flavour. Iris particularly liked helping me bake this cake as she could steal honey while Nanna was distracted.

  • Little Black Duck has this fun Beehive FPP Quilt Block Pattern in her Etsy shop. The PDF pattern includes two block sizes (6" and 10"), and you can add some magic to all your quilt projects. There are also two options for the beehive door, and I think you'll have fun with this pattern.
  • Beekeeper is a stunning free quilt pattern on the Art Gallery Fabrics website. This quilt is traditionally pieced and finishes at 88". The fabrics they've chosen give it a soft, delicate look and the design is so clever. You'll love this one!
  • The Amigurumi Bee Bear Hybrid pattern from Velora Crochet is the absolute cutest. This is a free pattern, and you will need to feel confident in amigurumi to try this one. He's just so sweet and I need to make him.

And if you'd like to make your own bee water stations, this is the YouTube video we used.

That's it for another week. I hope these projects inspired you to bee creative.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday lovely. Stay safe and well :)

Happy Week Ending :)
