Octavia Mini Quilt PDF Pattern

Mini quilts may be small in size, but they're super fun to sew! They're a fast finish with less commitment, and every month I add a new design to my pattern family to tempt you!

It's time to welcome my new mini quilt pattern Octavia to my pattern family. I've been sitting on this mini for quite a while now because life has taken so many detours - I won't go into the specifics, but I have enjoyed heaps of nanna time!

Isn't Octavia stunning? I wanted a beginner friendly design after Grace, and Octavia ticked all the right boxes - she's a gorgeous quilt, she's fun and easy to piece, and she's a bright and colorful addition to my pattern family.

The reason I called her Octavia is pretty obvious (eight sections, eight star points etc.), but she's also named after one of my favorite TV characters - Octavia from The 100.

If you haven't seen The 100 it's a post-apocalyptic science fiction series with juvenile delinquents as the protagonists - might not sound exciting but it's addictive! This is hubby's favorite genre and I got hooked as well, even though I gravitate towards a good drama or historical fiction.

The name Octavia has Latin origins but was used in the Victorian era as the name of the eighth child born into the family. As families became smaller, it was used less, but it's resurged as a popular name in this modern world.

Octavia is a petite 14" square mini quilt pattern, and she's perfect for the beginner paper piecer. Each of the eight wedges is worked as one piece, and there's nothing particularly tricky to mention - the wedges go together very quickly and easily!

I used a mix of Bonnie and Camille fabrics and Edyta Sitar fabrics to bring my Octavia to life, and I love this combination. I have included a colouring sheet in the PDF pattern so you can play around with different fabric/colour combinations prior to sewing your mini quilt.

The Octavia Mini Quilt PDF Pattern includes step-by-step instructions and coloured diagrams to make construction pain free and fun for you. I've also included optional instructions for adding a hanging sleeve or corner hangers so you can proudly display your finished quilt on your mini wall.

As always, I have included any tips I think might help you along the way, but if you're new to paper piecing and need a little help I have some tutorials here:

There's lots of information and practice sheets in these posts, but I'm just an email away if you need further assistance.

I'm so in love with this little quilt. I'm sure Octavia will bring you some joy as well and brighten your day and your sewing space.
