Classic Quilt Blocks have been sewn for centuries, are easy to recognise and are every quilters favorite. Let's celebrate these gorgeous blocks and add them to our quilting projects!
Welcome to Week Three of my Ohio Star Classic Quilt Blocks series! Did you enjoying sewing the Ohio Star block in last week's tutorial? It's such a fun block, and it looks fantastic in any fabric or colour combination.
This week I want to inspire you to sew your own Ohio Star quilt by sharing some of my favorite designs. These quilts illustrate how wonderful and versatile this block is, and why it's still relevant for today's modern quilter.
I've put together a collection of modern and traditional designs as a delightful visual feast to tempt you, and some of these are free patterns, so you can grab some fabrics and begin sewing straight away.
Ready for some quilty inspiration? Let's go:
First up is this gorgeous Ohio Star Quilt pattern from Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company. It's a simple layout of blocks, sashing and cornerstones but what a beauty! Those scrappy stars float and dance around the background, and they truly make a statement.
This would be a great beginner quilt, and a wonderful opportunity to play with scraps and see how they interact and work together.
Jenny has all the details for this free quilt pattern on her site HERE and there's a video tutorial to help you sew your own quilt.
I'm seriously in love with the Down Home quilt from Corey at Coriander Quilts, isn't it stunning? Her Ohio Stars are soft and pretty and this is such a fun layout.
She's designed this quilt using fat eighths, and you only need 13 plus some background fabric to make your own version. I love Corey's colour palette, but the possibilities are endless with this design!
Corey's Down Home pattern is available in her shop HERE.
This bright, bold Ohio Star quilt is from the Accuquilt Go! website and it makes me so happy! It's such a friendly quilt and those colours just fill your day with sunshine and happiness, don't they?
There's a video on the website showing you how to use the Accuqilt Go! Ohio Star die, and there's a link to purchase what you need for the machine.
I included this quilt because it's the perfect inspiration for choosing a vibrant colour palette. So fun!
The Random Ohio Star Quilt from Bonnie at Quiltville is another gorgeous example to inspire you. This is a free quilt pattern (with tutorial) using 12" and 6" finished blocks, and I love the random layout - it looks so eye catching!
I love Bonnie's colour palette, but I think this would look fabulous in any combination. The pattern is for a lap size quilt, but it looks easy enough to adapt to any size.
You can find the free pattern on Bonnie's blog HERE.
The State Of Being quilt pattern from Meadow Mist Designs is a stunning example of a modern Ohio Star quilt. I could stare at this all day, it's so fun and peaceful, almost like dandelion seeds flying in the breeze!
There's lots of negative space, which I love, giving you plenty of room for intricate quilting. This pattern is available in Cheryl's shop HERE and I'm sure you'll have fun with it!
How about the Ohio Supernova from Heather Jones Studio? This is so cool and using one super sized block is so effective. It's simple but classic, and great for beginners or those who want a quilt that makes a dramatic statement.
This pattern is available in Heather's shop HERE.
And finally, you know I looooove a good mini and Practical Magic from Samantha at Aqua Paisley Studio is just stunning. Her Ohio Stars dance together in this little cutie and she has a heartfelt story behind this design you simply must read.
It's a gorgeous and inspiring little quilt and you can purchase a copy of the pattern HERE.
Did these gorgeous quilts inspire you? I hope so! If you need more inspiration then do a GoogleImage search and have a look at some of the wonderful quilts on display.
Next week is my last Ohio Star Classic Quilt Blocks post and I like to do something fun to celebrate. I'm going to show you how easy it is to adapt or tweak the Ohio Star, and I've got a free block pattern for you to try. It's super fun and I'm sure you're going to love it.
Happy quilting :)
I love Ohio stars! Thanks for your collection of sources of beautiful Ohio star quilts.
