{Free Block Pattern} - Candy Apple - Threadbare Creations

Candy apples (or toffee apples) are popular at this time of the year, so why not sew your own and decorate your home for Halloween using my free block pattern.

Halloween is right around the corner, and there's a wonderful sense of energy and spirit as everyone begins decorating and preparing to celebrate this spook-tacular season!

There's pumpkins, bats, witches, and ghouls everywhere, but how about something sweet?

I like to decorate the house with a few non scary things and this year I wanted to include some Candy Apples, so I designed a little block pattern for you. It's a foundation paper pieced block and I wanted the apples to be scrappy and fun - I think I nailed it, yes?

I've told this story before, but Candy Apples take me right back to primary school and the annual school fair. Every year, a lady set up a stall of Candy Apples (or Toffee Apples as we called them), and they were the highlight of the event. She was the absolute sweetest and she loved children - she was like a grandmother to all of us.

It was many years later that I discovered we brought her house after she passed. All those Candy Apples I spent my hard-earned pocket money on, were prepared in the kitchen I used prior to our renovation. I can imagine her lining them up on the benches as she worked and looking out the same kitchen window I do now - I bet the house smelt amazing too!

The Candy Apple block pattern finishes at 6" x 9" and you can use it for whatever project you like. They sew up quite quickly, so throw together some of your favorite scraps and make as many as you need. I used my Bonnie and Camille fabrics, and don't they make the cutest apples?

We're having our annual girl's scary movie night on Halloween night, so I decided to make a table mat for the snack table. I sewed three of the Candy Apple blocks together, then quilted them and added some fun pinstripe binding. Voila!

Cute right? I'm in love, and it's a fun way to add some non-scary Halloween decor to your home.
