When you think of St Patrick's Day you think leprechauns, limericks, the colour green and shamrocks, right? I thought it might be fun to draft up a quilt block to use in your quilting projects, so today I've got the Shamrock FPP Block Pattern in four sizes for you to sew!

This is a free block pattern which is quick and easy block to paper piece and it's sure to bring a little Irish luck to your celebration projects.

St Patrick's Day is celebrated all around the world and commemorates the Roman Catholic patron saint of Ireland - St Patrick. The Irish spirit is friendly and expressive and "the luck of the Irish" theme is a positive reflection on life and an optimistic view of problems or bad situations.

Parades, drinking beer, and singing and dancing in pubs are the most popular traditions and there's green everywhere - specifically kelly green! Fun fact for you, St Patrick's official colour was light sky blue, but it was changed to kelly green after the Irish Independent Movement in the late 1800's.

The shamrock is an important symbol in Irish history, and it means different things to different people - national pride, history, celebrations, and religion etc. The Shamrock is a young three leaf clover that grows wild in Ireland and is worn to represent the link to the Holy Trinity - the father, the son and the Holy Spirit.

The shamrock is a clover, but not all clovers are shamrocks. A clover must have three leaves to be a shamrock and it's name comes from the Irish word seamrog which translates to "little clover".

The Shamrock FPP Block pattern includes four block sizes (4", 6", 8" & 10") with full sized templates for you to print and use. There's also step by step instructions and diagrams to help you piece your block, and a colouring sheet for planning your fabrics/colours, plus a few suggestions for using the block in projects.
