Orange Crinkle Cookies

Light, fluffy, crunchy and delicious. These Orange Crinkle Cookies are a melt in your mouth cookie with lovely texture and flavor. Try the recipe for yourself!

Oranges are in season, so I've been baking Orange Crinkle Cookies on repeat. They're super simple and you can make a batch and have them in the oven in less than fifteen minutes.

We love them because they're soft and melt in your mouth on the inside and crunchy on the outside. They have a subtle orange flavor and they're not too sweet, so it's ok to have more than one with your morning coffee - no judgement here! ;)

This recipe will make eighteen fluffy and delicious cookies that the whole family will love. Try substituting the orange for lemon if you prefer or use a lime for something different - it would create wonderful flavor!

You only need some basic ingredients from the pantry and an orange, so they're economical and a good use of seasonal fruit. They're visually appealing as well, and as we eat with our eyes you won't have left-overs - they do store well in an air tight container though!

They bake in as little as 10-14 minutes. In my oven, they take exactly twelve minutes, but all ovens are different, so be vigilant and keep an eye on them so they don't overcook. The cookies should begin to dry and crackle on top, and the bottoms should be barely brown before you remove them from the oven.

Leave them on the baking trays for a few minutes after baking to continue the cooking process, and then they will be firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

You'll need the zest of the orange, plus some of the juice, and forgive me if you already know this tip for using a micro plane zester, but:

  • to remove the zest, turn your zester over so the back of the zester is facing you, then drag it over the orange so the zest collects in the curve. Essentially hold the orange still and move the zester over the skin. You won't lose any valuable zest or require an extra bowl to collect your zest - it all sits in the curve of the zester.

I love the texture, the zingy flavor that stays in your mouth long after you've eaten one, and the delicious aromas they create while baking. They're a simple and delightful cookie, and one I'm sure you'll bake often.
