Wreath Mini Quilt PDF Pattern

Mini quilts may be small in size but they're super fun to sew! They're a fast finish with less commitment and every month I add a new design to my pattern family to tempt you!

Hanging a wreath in your home at Christmas creates a welcoming and cheerful space, and it's an important symbol of the season. Traditionally they were made from an assortment of leaves, flowers, fruits and twigs, and woven together to form a circle.

I decided to sew my own this year, so please welcome the gorgeous Wreath to my pattern family!

This little quilt fills my heart with joy! It's a fresh and modern take on traditional wreaths and one I know you're going to love.

Wreaths are as essential to decorating as the Christmas tree and they have a rich an interesting history. Back in the 16th century, trees were cut down and brought inside the home to celebrate the season.  The limbs had to be trimmed to give the tree a more uniform shape or to make it fit in the required space.

It's believed they were trimmed into a triangle to represent the Trinity, and as nothing was wasted the off cuts were woven into wreaths.

Their circular shape made them easy to hang, and their fresh scent made the humble home aromatic and festive.

I have so many traditional Christmas wreaths, so this design felt fun to me. It still represents this classic symbol of Christmas, but with a clean and fresh feel.

I chose a muted yet classic fabric palette for my Wreath Mini Quilt, but you can be creative and change the look of this pattern by playing with the colours.

Here are just some of the ideas I came up with - I've added this graphic to the pattern as well to give you some inspiration. The PDF pattern includes a colouring sheet so you can have fun planning different colourways until you find the look you like.

The fun doesn't stop there though! You could add an embroidered message to the quilt centre, or some buttons for berries, or sew on a velvet bow to the top or bottom. The possibilities are endless, and I know you'll come up with something fabulous!

Wreath is a foundation paper piecing pattern, and it finishes at around 16" square. There is a lot of piecing in this one, and quite a few bulky seam intersections, so take your time and enjoy the process.

There's nothing particularly challenging but if you need some help simply send me an email - I'm always here to answer any questions you might have.

If you're new to paper piecing and need a little extra guidance, you can find lots of tips in my tutorials:

Hopefully these tutorials will give you the confidence to give paper piecing a try!

The Wreath Mini Quilt PDF pattern includes step by step instructions and coloured diagrams, plus any tips I thought might help you along the way.

There are also optional instructions for adding a hanging sleeve or corner hanger to display your quilt this Christmas, and all templates are full sized so it's easy to print.

PDF patterns are now available in my Etsy shop, and until the end of December 2022 they will be available at the introductory price of $4.95 (AU + taxes).
