Having a clean and organised sewing space makes me feel inspired to create. My free Prepare For A Creative Year! workbook includes checklists and record pages to make it easy for you!
The time between Christmas and New Year is a quiet time for us, so that's when I prepare my sewing room for a creative year ahead. I'm a list maker and there's nothing more satisfying than ticking little boxes when tasks are complete.
If you're like me, you might find my Prepare For A Creative Year! workbook useful for organising your sewing space. I've included all the checklists I used to clean and organise my room and fabric stash, and I'm offering them to you in one free PDF download.
I always start with my fabrics because they bring me the most joy and it's probably the biggest job.
Taking time to sort, fold and organise my fabric stash makes selecting fabrics easier. I can also see how fabrics work together, and I find this to be great inspiration for planning future projects.
There are many ways to store your fabrics, so find what works for you and your space. Whatever system you choose, keep it simple so it's easy to maintain all year long.
The checklists in the Prepare For A Creative Year! workbook will also help you organise your cutting area, ironing station, patterns and books, notions, unfinished projects, yarns and yarn supplies.
Your sewing machine is your biggest investment, so keeping it clean and serviced is important. It's one of my least favorite jobs, but as you can see from the photo above it collects a lot of fluff after one small project, so it's important to be vigilant.
Give it a deep clean now and after every project during the year. It's also a good time to book it in for a service or pencil in a date in your new planner for later in the year.
The workbook includes a checklist for cleaning your machine and also general cleaning of your sewing space - dust bunnies live everywhere!
Don't forget your yarn stash and supplies. Regardless of the size of your stash, it's good to know what you have so you can look for projects to create.
The workbook contains a Yarn Stash page where you can record the type of yarn, it's ply and how much of it you have (in grams). When you find a project you like, a quick scan of your list will determine if you have enough yarn to complete the project.
There's also a UFO Progress page for you to complete for each of your unfinished projects. You can either file these together for quick reference or add them to the project container to record the steps you need to complete.
I also included a page to plan your project Wish List for the year, and a Project Record page to record everything you complete - simply print as many pages as you need for each section.
The Prepare For A Creative Year! workbook includes eight pages of checklists and record sheets, and you can download it today and use it year after year.
