Knit Square Blanket - Seamless Quilt (Pattern from Mama In A Stitch)

My latest project off the needles is the Knit Square Blanket from Jessica at Mama In A Stitch. This blanket helped me wile away the cold, wet weeks of winter and create something beautiful!

Morning lovely!

I love when two crafts collide to create something beautiful! The Knit Square Blanket Seamless Quilt from Jessica at Mama In A Stitch is my latest finished project and I'm so in love with this gorgeous throw.

The simple knitted squares are worked across the blanket creating a quilt effect that's full of texture and the best part is, you don't have to join a single seam. The garter stitch border is worked as you go and it creates lovely clean edges, effortlessly.

This will be my new spring throw, and it looks so pretty in our home - perfect for the grandchildren to nap under, make forts with or just hide from each other when they need a moment!

I always rave about the Hue and Me yarn and with good reason. It's a beautiful yarn to work with and the drape it creates is perfect. There's no splitting and with such a large range of colours it's hard to decide which one to choose.

After going back and forth on a few colour options, I settled Love Song for my blanket, and I couldn't be happier with the pink tones its added to our spring home.

This yarn makes a cosy and warm blanket and while I usually prefer something light and lacy for spring, this pattern stole my heart. I'm that nanna who has to throw a blanket over the little ones when they fall asleep regardless of the season, and they look so snuggly.

A point to note about this yarn, since taking these photos one grandchild (Miss Iris) had a terrible tummy bug, and my blanket didn't escape a stream of vomit. I threw it in the wash and it's even softer and cosier than before!

It was the perfect project to work on during the long winter months and a great excuse to stay in bed a little longer knitting a few rows on those cold mornings.

The pattern is very easy to follow, and suitable for all knitting levels. I found it very calming to work on, as the squares are simple to knit and once you create the first set of squares there's very little thinking, counting or pattern checking.

It's also very easy to adapt and I did make my blanket larger than the pattern because I wanted a throw size so the grandchildren wouldn't fight over it - for little people they can be very territorial over blanket space ;)

The blanket is made with simple stockinette, and reverse stockinette squares and those gorgeous seed squares. They provide a nice contrast, and the texture is gorgeous.

The seed stitch was my nan's favorite to knit so I felt connected to her while working on these squares. She would have loved this blanket. It's an easy pattern and yet it adds so much to the design.

You only need to know three stitches for the whole blanket, and they create this gorgeous quilt effect that we all love.

A few notes on the how I adapted the pattern. Firstly, I added two repeats of the squares to the width of the throw and then I added five repeats to the length to give me a generous throw size of approximately 52" x 72 ".

I also used a smaller needle size (8mm) because that was what I had on hand, and I had used this size for my Harvest Throw with great results.

I knit quite loosely so going with a smaller needle gave me tighter and smaller stitches. With the amount of wear and tear this blanket will endure I'm confident it will keep its shape better without sacrificing that gorgeous drape.

Jessica has this pattern free on her website or you can purchase an ad free version on Etsy to support her work. She has some beautiful patterns on Mama In A Stitch, so make sure you go over and take a look.

I absolutely love my new Knit Square Blanket. It combines knitting and quilting effortlessly and it's a wonderful project to work on.

I picked it up whenever I had the urge to knit and as it grew it became a blanket to cosy up with as the temperatures dropped. It helped me endure the rainy days, the cold nights and the restful hibernation of winter.

I highly recommend picking up the needles and giving this gorgeous pattern a try - you won't be disappointed.

Enjoy!
