Week Ending - January 21

Seven inspiring projects, seven talented makers! Quilting, crochet and baking links to inspire you to create every day of the week!

Happy Sunday lovely! How has your week been?

I thought today I'd look at some quilting and crochet projects that require techniques that are less used or little-known to inspire you to create differently. Some may be new to you (and me) but it's a fresh year and learning new skills is what life is all about.

Let's have some fun and see what I found:

  • Tunisian Crochet combines crochet techniques with some knitting techniques. Crochet Beja has a very detailed post called Tunisian Crochet Stitch You Should Learn which has a tutorial and a pattern for you to try. The texture is gorgeous and it's perfect for a large range of projects.

  • Give your quilts an embossed look with Trapunto Quilting. In That Crafty Cara's tutorial, you will learn how to quilt and stuff a sweet snowflake in the centre of a block, and all her tips along the way. The texture it creates is fun and such a lovely addition to a quilted project.
  • My nan would use Filet Crochet for delicate tray covers or jar covers. Yarn 'N Me has a tutorial to introduce you to the technique plus lots of tips for reading charts, the best yarns to use and she has links to purchase her ebook which includes a pattern for a gorgeous throw.
  • Reverse applique is a great technique - I taught a class many years ago at a craft fair and everyone had great results. Sew Guide has a tutorial for Reverse Applique By Hand that will show you how it's done (scroll down for other methods as well).

  • I love amigurumi and it's not something you've tried yet then Knits and Knots By Ame has a free pattern for a Amigurumi Octopus that you simply must try. It's super cute and I'm sure it will begin your new love affair with amigurumi.
  • I have shared this before but just in case you missed it, Amy Smart shared a two-part series on Manx Quilting. This technique is a foundation pieced quilt as you go method, and her log cabin blocks are stunning.
  • And just because I'm in the mood for trying a new recipe, why not bake the Upside-down Pineapple Coconut Cakes from Taste Australia. This classic combination will delight everyone and it's exactly what I'm baking this afternoon :)

And that's it for another week! I hope these posts inspired you to try or learn a new technique.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday lovely! Stay safe and well :)

Happy Week Ending :)
