Pincushions!!!

For some time now ive seen these cute little pincushions on different blogs and just needed to try them:

But really, how many pincushions does one girl need??............and seriously, its quite common to find me walking around the studio with pins in my mouth!!!

But i had an idea!!!!.........if anyone has cared for an elderly relative they would know what we r dealing with at the moment with my MIL. We respect her right to live in her own home but it is exhausting and at times, if we didnt receive the help we do, it wouldnt be possible. She is doing so much better, but sadly she lost her sister (aged 80) .....so this week hasnt been great!!!

Mum has so many wonderful people helping us care for her...........helping out with the household chores, showering her, shopping for her, helping me take her to Doctors appointments and they have become part of her life and ours, so with Xmas coming up she would be embarrassed if she didnt have a gift to give them to show her appreciation...............so my plan is, to fill up a basket, over the next few days, with these little gems, ill get some cute Xmas labels and she can give the out to all who "help her"...........i told her of my plan on the phone tonite and she was stoked!!!

From our point of view, we could never repay the people who help out..........i have watched my father and how taking care of his parents affected him and our family..........i watch my Mum, now taking care of her parents, and i worry for her, and now Les and I care for his Mum, and at times it is really hard, so for someone to take the time out and go and buy a loaf of bread or get a carton of milk, or to hang the washing out before i get there each morning, or to offer to sit with her for the day..............i could never repay u, please accept my pincushion as a heartfelt gift!!!

  2. What a beutiful idea. I'm planning to make more of them to give to some of my friends too. And you just gave me the great idea to make more of them and give each one that works where my mother now live at the old peoples house. They are so sweet to my mom.
The next one I will do a little yo-yo or a little felted flower to put under the button as an extra touch.

  3. Your pincushions are really beautiful and a wonderful gift. I collect handmand pinchshions and I have not seen this pattern, they look like flowers. I hope your MIL is doing better.

  5. I love the fabrics you used on the pincushions! Cute, cute, cute! What a great idea for using them, too. I've been thinking about making one for months, never have gotten around to it. Next year. =)

  6. I enjoyed reading your post today. We have been taking care of my mother-in-law, who is ungrateful and demanding. It is difficult for us because no one else wants to help her. We don't want to either, but feel we must out of obligation.
I like your gift idea...it is a lovely way of saying thank you to your generous helpers.

  7. Your pin cushion is wonderful. We took care of DH's dad for the last few months of his life and there were people who were invaluable to us, so I understand what you are talking about. It will be a good thing to give these out. They really are pretty!

  8. This is a lovely gesture--I'd love to be a recipient but luckily, my Dad is holding his own right now (lost my mother to cancer four years ago) and my in-law's are busy taking care of my 8-year-old in the afternoons and evenings when we work.

  10. These are just precious, Rose! As someone who cared for her own mom and dad when they lived with us for 9 months during my mom's cancer treatments, and as someone who goes up to Alaska twice a year for a month each time to help them out, now..and then helps out with my MIL here in Oregon...boy, do I know how hard it is! You are lucky to be surrounded with caring people and they are all blessed to know and be appreciated by you! You are doing more than helping a loved one...you are teaching everyone around you, especially your children what love and caring truly are!

  13. Oooh I saw those pincushions on a few blogs too - your turned out adorable!

Your blocks from the previous post look so good too - I LOVE your taste in fabric. You'll have to share what some of that is and where you got it if you get time! Particularly that dark blue you used in the Mariner's Compass and Bear's Paw. I love that!!! :)
