Handmade Magazine- Sapphire and Deuce

The latest and sadly the very last issue of Handmade Magazine is now on sale. You may have heard that Handmade and its sister magazine Australian Patchwork and Quilting are ceasing publications; the end of a wonderful era for Australian quilting magazines :(.
I feel honored that this very last issue of Handmade contains not one, but two of my projects and I thought I'd quickly share them both with you:

The first one is my Sapphire Tablecloth and I adore this stunning blue and white combination. It would look lovely on the dining table with a vase of colourful flowers and your favorite blue and white china (and cake, lots of cake!).
I used the Indigo Nights fabrics the magazine sent me, but this pattern would look gorgeous in any colour combination. I'm hoping to make another version of this very soon in some pretty florals.

The Sapphire blocks are fully paper pieced and the alternate Confetti blocks are traditionally pieced. Together they create a gorgeous 30" square tablecloth that's perfect for any occasion. You could also make more of the blocks for a larger throw or lap quilt if you wanted.

My second project is Deuce and I love this cushion. It was a fun one to design and let's be honest, the only thing better than one pinwheel is two pinwheels, right? :) I think a mix of different shape cushions thrown casually on your sofa looks cosy and inviting, so I'm thrilled to add this rectangular one to my collection.
Make sure you grab a copy of the last issue of Handmade Magazine.  Its jammed packed with 23 beautiful projects and lots of inspiration.
If you have trouble finding a copy, I'll be adding both of these patterns to my shops later in the year (around November) and I'll give you more details about each of the projects then. Hopefully I'll also have them both made up in different fabrics to give you another option.

Farewell Handmade and Australian Patchwork and Quilting, you have given so many quilters the opportunity to see their own work in print and delivered high quality magazines full of wonderful projects, advice and inspiration. You will be missed :(
Happy quilting :)

  1. It has been very sad to see quilting magazines fade away one by one. I, for one, hate e-mags and e-books. I want to hold the magazine/book in my hands and, if I want show a friend something in a magazine, Ii want to be able for them to see it! I understand that it's all about the money but it does make me sad.

    1. It is very sad. The magazines have provided a fantastic platform for all crafters to showcase their work in print. I'm a book/magazine lover as well; there's nothing like that smell and feel. So sad the next generations will miss out on things like that :(

  2. So very sorry to hear about the end of this magazine. I have only recently become familiar with it through your blog. I am having difficulty locating this magazine. Are you able to tell me how I can purchase a copy? For me, digital is just fine. Thanks! And -- love your blog, ideas and creativity.

    1. I've been unable to provide a link to purchase any of their magazines since late 2017. I've also searched for digital sales but I am unable to find anything. Their website and Facebook page has no information. I cant find it on the big digital sites like Zinio or Pocketmags. I also visited two of our local newsagents earlier in the week to grab a copy for my mum but neither of them had a copy. Very sad :( I'm sorry that I cant be of any help.

  3. Rose, I like your blue and white quilt! That's a great pattern, and blue and white is about my favorite combination. I'm so sorry to hear those two publications are closing down! I hope you still have others!

    1. Thanks Susan, blue and white is a classic combination and perfect for entertaining :) There are other magazines to submit to, mostly digital though. Its sad that we're losing all of our iconic magazines, and not just the crafting ones :( The end of an era I'm afraid :(
