Easter HST Quilt

Good morning lovely! I'm super egg-cited to share my finished Easter HST quilt with you today. I'd barely sewn down the last of the binding and snapped a few photos before Maddi swooped in and took it to her house - I think she was worried I'd change my mind about letting it go ;)
I cant blame her for stealing it, its absolutely gorgeous:

Ta Da! I just love how it turned out, don't you? The humble HST's were the perfect choice to showcase these pretty fabrics and even though the design is simple, its a stunning quilt :)
It was definitely one of the quickest quilts I've made in a long time, almost two seasons of the Gilmore Girls to be exact ;) Sometimes you need a quick finish and simple blocks like these make it a breeze.

You can make hundreds of quilt designs using HST's, and this is what makes it one of the most versatile blocks in quilt history. Block orientation and colour values can bring a myriad of layouts to life, making them perfect for the beginner and an absolute delight for all quilters.
Because I made four HST's at a time fussy cutting wasn't an option, but its fun to see a little bunny face peeking out from the corners of the triangles.  There's also a cute cart of carrots that pops up in one of the mint prints that I absolutely adore. :)

Apparently Maddi wasn't the only one who loved this quilt, Maria also gave it her purr of approval. ;) I swear I left it for two minutes to grab my camera and she had settled in for a cat nap. I don't like her on my quilts because she leaves hair all over them but she looked so damn cute that I had to snap a few photos before moving her along. ;)  (and she moved straight onto Cohen's bed and snuggled on his quilt grr!) What is it with cats and quilts?

This would have been the perfect quilt to hand quilt but I'm about to start hand quilting a project for the wedding, plus I really wanted to get this one finished in time for Easter so I quilted it by machine. I used my trusty (lets quilt this quickly) serpentine stitch at 3/4" intervals so its not too dense and it will allow the quilt to crinkle nicely when its washed.

I really enjoyed working on this quilt and I've loved sharing my progress with you - it actually kept me focused and accountable so that the fabric didn't sit in the cupboard for another year. ;)
Maddi now has a lovely new quilt to throw on her couch for this Easter and many more Easters to come. It will be the perfect quilt for her to snuggle under as she reads or watches TV and devours her Easter chocolate. :)
