Looking for a quick and easy gift idea for family and friends? My Christmas Mug Cosy pattern will turn any mug into something festive and fun to delight your loved ones this Christmas!
Morning lovely! I have a super festive and utterly adorable new pattern for you today, and it's perfect for your last-minute Christmas gift sewing.
My Christmas Mug Cosy pattern is a sweet way to add a festive touch to any plain mug, and I love this more than any of the Christmas mugs I found in the shops this year - is it just me or are they all the same designs as last year?
Options for resizing the Christmas Mug Cosy pattern are included in the PDF pattern, and I think they will help you achieve the perfect fit.
If you're still having trouble, please contact me and we'll sort something out together!
I used a narrower binding than normal, because I didn't want to add more to the width of the Mug Cosy. I used 2" binding strips, but you could go smaller if you need to.
The finished size of the Christmas Mug Rug pattern is approx. 3 1/2" x 11 1/2", so measure your mug carefully before you begin. It is a foundation paper piecing pattern with a little traditional sashing thrown in.
The trees are super tiny (1 1/2" finished) and they can be fiddly but not difficult. Remember to adjust your stitch length when paper piecing to keep everything secure as you sew.
There are three blocks, and each block is pieced in two sections, making it easy to construct and super fun!
My intention was to time myself while sewing one to give you an accurate time frame, but nothing ever goes to plan, does it? I suggest locking the family out of the house, turn off your phone and you should have one completely finished in under three hours! ;)
Ribbon ties were the best way to secure the cosy to the mug - there are other options like a button and loop or a fabric tie, but the ribbon can be tied tightly preventing the cosy from slipping down the mug.
My first thought was to densely stipple the mug cosy so it laid flat, but some well-spaced serpentine quilting retained that puffy and cosy feel - the perfect touch for a mug of hot chocolate or steaming coffee!
Simply add some chocolates, or some home baked goods and wrap it in cellophane and you have a sweet handmade gift for family and friends.
Alternatively add a hot chocolate sachet, a cinnamon stick, a candy cane and some marshmallows and the recipient has everything they need for a delicious beverage this Christmas.
It's the perfect gift for all ages and I'm sure you'll have fun deciding how to fill and gift the mug!
The PDF pattern includes step by step instructions and diagrams, tips for adjusting the size and a colouring sheet so you can plan your Christmas Mug Cosy prior to sewing - the kids will love colouring these trees so make sure you print extra copies!
PDF patterns are now available in my Etsy shop at the low price of $2.99 (AU + taxes where applicable).
