Let's start this season of love with a free block pattern to sew for Valentine's Day. This heart block is simple, sweet and versatile for any project you might be working on.
The FPP Striped Heart Block can be found in the EQ8 library, and it's modern and fun and you can sew a block in under twenty minutes!
The FPP Striped Heart Block pattern is available as a free download, and the PDF file includes templates for four block sizes - approx. 4", 6", 8" & 10" (finished).
The blocks are paper pieced as one unit, so there's no joining to do, making them quick and easy. You will need to have knowledge of foundation paper piecing and if it's a new technique to you, you can start with my tutorials here:
Just a note on the templates included in the PDF file - the templates for both the 8" and 10" blocks are spread over two pages due to their size. You will need to join the templates with some tape or glue prior to sewing the block. I have placed the joins in the centre of the blocks to make it easy for you.
The FPP Striped Heart Block would look amazing in any colour palette, and I'm sure you'll have fun playing with different combinations - I had Bonnie and Camille fabrics on my cutting table so I went with those for my hearts and they're so pretty.
I think you'll find uses for this block in a variety of projects - hearts are not exclusive to Valentine's Day!
Add the blocks to quilts, make coasters or placemats, a table runner or a cushion or use them as a focal block on gift bags. The possibilities are endless and even if you don't sew them now, you might find uses for the blocks throughout the year.
I've included very basic instructions in the free download as they're pieced as one unit - you only need the templates to make your blocks.
I haven't included fabric requirements - these blocks are meant to be scrappy, and the fabric requirements vary depending on the block size you choose.
I have included a colouring sheet for you to plan your blocks and a few inspirational diagrams of the FPP Striped Heart Block set in mini quilts, plus a few ideas on how to use the blocks.
These simple hearts will help you spread some love this Valentine's Day. Be creative and make something beautiful :)
