Week Ending - May 11

Seven inspiring projects, seven talented makers! Quilting, crochet and baking links to inspire you to create every day of the week!

Happy Sunday lovely and Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day began in the US in 1905, but it didn't become popular in Australia until 1924. Janet Heyden of Sydney NSW, a member of the Home for Destitute Women and Children, decided to brighten the day of the lonely mothers in the home with a small gift.

This small act of kindness morphed into something so much bigger, and Janet's vision of honouring our mums on the second Sunday in May became an Australian tradition.

I hope you have a wonderful day and celebrate with those you love.

Let's take a look at the projects I found for you this week:

  • The Midnight Walk Square is a free crochet pattern from Pysselofix and you can download it from Ravelry. This lacy pattern is delicate and sweet with lovely texture and multiple uses. It would be perfect for blankets, cushion or a lovely lacy scarf. A pretty block you'll want to keep in your files for any project.
  • 5BoysBaker has a recipe for Raspberry Oatmeal Crumble Bars and this looks delicious. If you need a quick and easy slice to take to your mum's today, then this might be perfect. I'm baking this later in the week for my craft girls and I'm sure they'll love it.
  • The Reversible Coffee Cup Cozy from Crafty for Home is a free tutorial and a great idea for gifts or to brighten your own daily coffee. The cozy is reversible, and it includes a sleeve for your hand so it's comfortable to hold - handy for us black coffee drinkers. So fun!

  • How amazing does this Chestnut and Chocolate Cake look from Delicious Australia? It's baked in eight 4" cake tins so you can have one whole cake for yourself (yum) and the flavours sound amazing. I need a reason to try this recipe very soon.
  • The Riverbend Cardigan from CJ Design Blog is on my list to try. It's a free pattern with a stunning stitch combination and it looks easy to crochet. There are tips for resizing this oversized cardigan and I love the colours she's used in her sample. I'd like one of these for our upcoming spring and I'm hunting down some yarn in this colour palette.
  • Splendor in the Scraps is a free traditionally pieced quilt pattern from Marcie Patch, and it's stunning. The pattern is for a lap sized quilt, but it could be easily adapted by increasing the block count. Grab your scrap bins and start sewing today!
  • Speaking of scraps, my bins are a huge mess again and Create with Claudia has a post (The Best Way to Organize Fabric Scraps) which has some wonderful ideas. She shares time saving tips for cutting and sorting, plus a useful guide for sizes to cut and store. Have a read and take back control of your scrap bins.

And that's it for another week! I hope you find some time to create in the days ahead.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday lovely! Stay safe and well :)

Happy Week Ending :)
