Christmas Projects On The Blog

As soon as November hits, I start planning for Christmas and I have a lot of free resources on the blog to help you make the most of the festive season. Here's a recap of my most popular free Christmas projects and planning essentials!

Morning lovely!

As soon as November hits I go into full Christmas planning and creating mode. I'd love to be that person who creates all year long and has a cache of homemade gifts waiting to be wrapped, but that never happens. I do make a lot of gifts though, and the creating begins now!

I try to avoid the consumerism of Christmas and what better way to show the important people in your life how much you love them by creating them a unique and heartfelt gift. It can be something small to add to Christmas cards or a quilt you've designed using one of my free block patterns.

Before I start sharing this year's festive blog projects, I like to put together a post of my most popular Christmas Projects On The Blog to inspire you. Each project is a free pattern, download, recipe card or tutorial and I hope you find them useful for your Christmas crafting.

Let's go:

Christmas Planning:

I couldn't do Christmas without my Christmas Planner. Everything is stored in one place (including receipts for warranties/returns etc.), and it keeps me organised. Lists, menus and recipes are easily accessible, and I can conveniently remove pages to take shopping, so I don't forget a thing.

To be honest, I start using my Christmas Planner in October, writing tentative ideas for gifts, menu's and this year's aesthetic, but the die-hard planning begins in November.

There's so much in this planner and every year you simply reprint the pages that you used last year and you're ready to start planning another unforgettable Christmas.

I make bucket lists for every season and all the special holidays, so I had to compile the free 101 Ideas for Christmas Bucket Lists booklet to inspire you. It's filled with fun activities for yourself, the children, the family, the pets and acts of community during this season.

Our Christmas Bucket List is written and ready, and this year I chose activities that will bring out the child in everyone. I want the family to feel the magic of the season, the importance of togetherness and the peace and joy this season brings.

I hope these resources help you plan a fantastic Christmas season for you and your family.

Christmas Recipes:

Nothing evokes the spirit of this magical season more than a home filled with the spicy scents of Christmas baking. Baking together and sharing delicious treats, creates long lasting memories and holiday cheer, and home baked goods make thoughtful gifts for everyone on your list.

I have a large selection of Christmas Recipes available for you to bake, including cookies, truffles, muffins and brownies and my family's Christmas Cake recipe.

I will be adding recipes to this collection in the coming weeks, so keep checking back as we move through this festive season.

Free Quilt Patterns & Tutorials:

Without a doubt, my free Christmas Star Block pattern is the most downloaded resource on my blog. It's mind blowing how many times this adorable block has been downloaded and shared by quilters and websites - I love that you love it!

This foundation paper pieced block pattern includes four block sizes (4", 6", 8" & 10") making it versatile for all your Christmas projects and a staple in your block collection.

It's an easy and fun block to piece and you can sew a star in under an hour. Add your star to quilts, pillows, table runners or placemats and choose a fabric combination to compliment your Christmas theme.

Have fun!

Another popular project on the blog is the Fabric Star Hangers step by step tutorial.

Every year I include a small handmade item in the Christmas cards I send to friends and family, and it's a sweet gift they can hang on their trees, with love from me.

They're quick and easy to make and a decoration they can display year after year. It's also a great scrap busting project and I love choosing fabrics that complement the colours of the cards I'm sending.

The Sedona Star Quilt Block Pattern is another popular download, and this 6" block is striking in any quilt project.

Combine this star with other quilt blocks or make a quilt full - one talented lady make a full-sized quilt with this block, and it made me gasp (literally!).

The free pattern includes full sized templates, assembly instructions and a colouring sheet, so all you need to do is choose some fabrics and start sewing :)

I love to decorate my workspace with a seasonal mug rug and these cute and simple Christmas Mug Rugs add a festive touch to my sewing room.

If you're looking for a gift idea for teachers, work mates, craft buddies or sweet neighbours, then these are perfect paired with a cute Christmas mug and some home baked goods.

Both the FPP and applique version are available in the free download, and both are fun and easy to sew.

We celebrate Christmas during summer in Australia, so our White Christmas is lived vicariously through cheesy Christmas movies and gorgeous photos on social media.

We still dream of warm fires, freshly fallen snow, hot chocolates, fluffy slippers and cosy pyjamas, and my Let It Snow Cushion sits under our tree every year in hope - it never happens but a girl can dream!

This festive cushion design uses raw edge applique, and the pom-pom fringe is a simple but adorable finishing touch.

Tree Farm is one simple FPP block design sewn three ways to give you a trio of blocks to use for any project you can dream up.

This pattern delights me, and it's been very popular with so many of you as well. Another lovely reader made a whole quilt using multiples of these blocks and it was breath taking - I was thrilled she chose my blocks to make her quilt!

Have fun creating your own Tree Farm.

Free Crochet Patterns:

Another lovely gift idea to include in your Christmas cards this year is my Crochet Snowflake Pattern. They also make lovely garlands, gift tags or simply add a hanger and decorate your Christmas Tree.

These little cuties are easy to crochet and can be finished in under 20 minutes. Basic stitches are used, and you can reduce your stash by using yarns you already have.

I've provided a photo tutorial to make it easy for you and it's a relaxing project to work on while watching Christmas movies.

And just for fun, I have the Gingerbread Coaster pattern, which I love. Their sweet, happy faces will add even more joy to the festive season and they're a hit with the children, big and small.

This free pattern is basic crochet with some applique thrown in, and they're perfect under a mug of hot chocolate or eggnog while you're watching your favorite Christmas movies.

Perfect for gifts, these coasters are playful and fun and very easy to crochet.

So, there are the most popular free Christmas projects I have on the blog at the moment. There are more to be found and if you type CHRISTMAS into the search bar at the top, they should all pop up!

I hope these projects sparked your excitement for Christmas and everything this magical season has to offer!

I'll have some new projects for you over the coming weeks, and I hope it's a creative season for you!
